Fields of obedience

It is such a blessing when we submit ourselves to God, and thus we gain the blessings of obedience. For this Peter wrote: “As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:14,15).

There are many other fields of submission and obedience, like when we submit ourselves to ordinances of man for the Lord’s sake:  “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme” (1 Peter 2:13).

Also there is obedience at work, let’s be far from any rebellion and sedition: “Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh” (1 Peter 2:18).

Then Peter writes about submission in Christian homes by the power of the holy Spirit: “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word” (1 Peter 3:1).

And the last submission is in God’s house among young people and elders: “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another” (1 Peter 5:5).

There exist five kinds of submission and obedience that we need to learn. By nature we tend to rebel and disobey, so the Bible says on us: “Were called a transgressor from the womb”. Thus we can’t learn obedience by ourselves, for these field ways of submission could only be created in us by the Holy spirit of God.
